I love surprising myself with photography. Being in the right place at the right time to capture that falling leaf, breaking wave, setting sun, first smile, last caress.

I love it when you feel lucky that the shot came off just as you wanted it to.

I love knowing that the more you practice, the more you analyse and criticise your own work, the 'luckier' you seem to get.

I love going out with the express intention of capturing a particular shot - the sunlight on the cathedral, the ducks dipping in the river. Then getting home knowing you've got those and so much more; the way the leaves blew into the air in that sudden gust, the dew on the grass, a mushroom ring... to feel that there was a moment about to be lost and you caught a glimpse that could now last forever.

Yet still I love going out with no idea of what I'm photographing today. But certain in the knowledge of what I'm photographing for.

The sheer thrill of it all.
